When I returned the next week, I realized that I had forgotten to put several of the frames in, and the bees had drawn down comb into the lacuna that I had left. This got me to thinking: what if I put things into the empty space? Would they build around it?
Thus, my first attempt at creating art with with my bees. I picked up a wedding cake topper at Archie McPhee’s, threw in a little plumber for no particular reason, lightly cased them in beeswax to make them more attractive to the bees, and voila!
