How to Remove the Tesla Logo
A Practical Guide for a Complicated Time
Owning a Tesla is complicated these days. Whether you think Elon was grabbing his heart and tossing it to the crowd—or throwing a Sieg Heil—there’s no denying he’s actively undermining democracy and dismantling institutions that care for people in need. Driving a car made by his company has become toxic.
So what’s a Tesla owner to do?
Maybe, like me, you believe fighting climate change is critical, and you bought your Tesla back when you knew Musk was a toxic jerk—but didn’t know he was a closet Nazi. Selling the car (or arranging for its theft) won’t fix the problem. You’d just pass the toxicity along to someone else without making a dent in the company’s bottom line.
But there’s another option: removing the Tesla emblem. It’s a simple, visible statement. Imagine if every Tesla on the road was stripped of its insignia. That would be a message—and give you some space from Musk’s ideology.
The good news? It’s easy to do. Here’s how.

Here’s what you’ll need:
- Heat gun or hair dryer
- Fishing line
- Stripe Off Wheel Adhesive Remover
- Drill
- Rubbing alcohol
- Soft rag
Step 1: Heat the logo
Run the heat gun or hairdryer over the logo for about 20 – 30 seconds. This will soften the adhesive that fixes the logo to your car.
Step 2: Detach the logo
Slip the fishing line behind the logo and slowly pass it completely underneath until the logo falls off.
Step 3: Remove the adhesive
Use your drill to spin the Stripe Off Wheel over the adhesive. Don’t worry, it won’t scratch the paint, it will just pull the adhesive up into an easily removed ball.
Step 4: Clean up
Soak your rag in rubbing alchol and wipe off the remaining adhesive. You may need to repeat Step 3 a couple times to remove the last few bits.
